MASK Digital Solutions = turns 3 this July! Here’s a little bit about us, why we started this company and a few things we learnt along the way. If you’re thinking about starting a business or just want to learn more about why we do what we do, keep reading!

Why we started MASK

Our founder, Minul, is an all-around techy with a passion for design and development. He has worked in the global IT industry for 5+ years now.

Minul began his career working as a Software Engineer at Virtusa. During his time there, he worked with many Tier 1 and Tier 2 banking clients from the APAC region and North America on complex system applications for the Banking & Financial Services industry.

“I enjoy working with people from different backgrounds and cultures. My experiences have helped me build up strong leadership and team working skills, and have prepped me to adapt to and handle high-pressure situations in the real world with ease and focus.”

After he moved to Australia to pursue a Master of Cybersecurity at RMIT, Melbourne, he realized that a lot of digital marketing agencies don’t seem to actually care about giving their clients a customized experience. Most agencies were offering a cookie-cutter experience to their clients without changing their formula to see what works for them. Resulting in small businesses and startups paying more money than they should for an experience that isn’t personalized to them in any way.

So he started MASK Digital Solutions, a digital agency that helps you make a lasting digital impression on your customers.

What we aim to change about the digital industry

On top of providing customers with a personal experience in an area that can be as confusing and cold as technology usually is, we also want to:

  • Be more transparent. We don’t see a lot of agencies being transparent about their prices and process like we are. We aren’t entirely transparent yet, but that’s because we’re still curating packages for all our services. Even though we’ll be offering standard packages for our services, this doesn’t mean the experience won’t be entirely custom to you. All the research, methods and processes that we will go through in this project will be personalized to suit your requirements, budget and time constraints.
  • Be Affordable. This doesn’t mean we can create ad campaigns for you with just $20! But we ARE trying to be more affordable and create flexible payment plans for small businesses or startups that might have a tighter budget for their business growth.
  • Set a standard for reliability. We’ve heard quite a few horror stories from our clients about developers that disappeared halfway through the project or gave them bad advice that didn’t work out for them. True, it did lead them to us, where we were able to create the website of their dreams! However, we aim to be much more reliable and trustworthy. This means clear proposals, no hidden fees, what you see is what you get with us!

2 important things we learnt

  • Communication and Process are so important

We’ve learned so much over these 2 years about clear communication between our team and our clients. We’ve implemented a new system with our team to help everyone take more responsibility for a certain aspect of our business. Sales, marketing, dev, all aspects of our company have someone in charge of it and someone that is supporting them in that role as well.

Weekly meets and daily task list updates have helped us maintain our efficiency tremendously. Shoutout to our PM Dinuli for making sure we complete things on time!

Here are some tips we use to maintain good communication with our team.

  1. Use separate platforms for work and play. Nobody likes to be having fun outside of work and then glancing at your phone to see work-related texts.
  2. We like to use Freedcamp and Cliq to manage our tasks. Cliq for instant messaging and Freedcamp to create and update tasks.
  3. Some of our employees don’t mind having meetings before certain tasks and some of them prefer to work at their own pace with as little human interaction as possible (a possible side effect from staying home all of last year?). For the latter, we have fewer meetings but create detailed tasks for them so that they can go about their day and complete the tasks faster and more efficiently.
  • Continuous Learning

We recently completed two of Dot Lung’s Domestika courses to learn more about Social Media Management and Instagram Growth to help grow our brand and use this knowledge on our future clients. Even if you’re an expert in your field, there’s always something new that you can learn from your peers or a client that you could put to use in your work. Keep your eye out for new opportunities, ideas and new things you can learn.

We’d suggest that you reach out to like-minded individuals on social media and join Facebook groups that are based on your interests. Remember that just because your business is doing well doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways for you to improve or innovate your products and services. If you drop the ball on in this area, then a newer business might come up from behind and whisk your customers away, simply because they tried out something different!

Talk to business coaches and experts in your industry (like us!) and don’t forget to ask for help when you need it! We’re always here to help you out, you might learn something new from us, so go ahead and schedule a free call with us or reach out to us on social media. Here’s to many more years of MASK Solutions doing its thing and helping you make a lasting digital impression!
